Acupuncture can only be performed on animals in the UK by a qualified veterinary surgeon who is a practising member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. On occasion, needles may be placed by a Registered Veterinary Nurse as a Schedule 3 procedure, but this RVN must be under the direct supervision of an appropriately trained vet.
If you have a case that you think would benefit from acupuncture and would like to discuss it further, you can contact the ABVA. We can provide advice by telephone or email regarding acupuncture in general, or individual cases. The Find a Vet function, here on the ABVA website allows both veterinary surgeons and pet owners to search for a veterinary acupuncturist in the local area and access contact details in order to then arrange a referral.
